WHAT IS A MANUFACTURER'S REPRESENTATIVE?

Manufacturer’s Representatives usually sell product lines from several different manufacturers. This is a contractual relationship that grants
the Representative exclusive rights to sell a manufacturer’s products in a specified territory or market, in lieu of the company hiring their own sales
force. The motivation to hire Manufacturer’s Representatives varies. For example, the manufacturer may be very small and not yet ready to
invest in its own sales force, or it may be part of a very large organization that prefers to assign the cost of selling their goods to each
individual sale. Either way, they have decided to share the Representative’s time and expertise with other manufacturers in the market they serve.

The result of this arrangement is that the Manufacturer’s Representative acts on behalf of the manufacturer by promoting their products
in the market place. In essence, they are the sales force for the manufacturer. You, as a buyer, do not pay more for the products as a result
of this relationship, as the Manufacturer’s Representative does not purchase or handle the products. The products you purchase are
shipped to you, and invoiced by the manufacturer, and the Representative is paid a commission on the sale.

Manufacturer’s Representatives are independent business people. Their income is derived solely from the commissions they earn
when you purchase the products they promote. They pay their own expenses, provide their own autos, and are frequently required
to purchase their own demonstration products. As with any sales rep, a Manufacturer’s Representatives job is to discuss your business
needs and suggest certain products or services designed to meet them. They are trained by the manufacturer, and serve as a liaison
between you and the factory. In most cases, they will be happy to train you and your staff on the proper use of their products if necessary.
